Nike Case Study Questions 1. Evaluate Nike by using the competitive forces and value chain models. Nike is one of the strongest sports brands, even though it is faced with competitors in the lines of clothing and shoe manufacturing. Nike constantly releases new products, and that keeps competitors from catching up to them. I can vouch for the quality of Nike, because I have had a pair of their shoes last me for over four years without any significant wear. Granted, the soles are worn to the point that there’s no traction on wet surfaces, especially the floors at ODU. They are facing new market entrant competition with their fitness tracking technology from smartwatch brands like Samsung and Fitbit. Nike satisfies this demand with many useful fitness apps associated with their products. Nike lets people connect through their Facebook pages, online training programs, etc. Nike+ allows people to have their data saved in one place. In the future, if smartwatches become more affordable, Nike might begin to struggle against competition. The reason being is that their products focus specifically on fitness, and not more general tasks that people would expect from a smartwatch. Second Case Study 1. This approach consequently led to fragmented information systems which could only serve the designated departments.
